Beautiful Bride

Written by Samantha Rivera | So you, like me, are looking to get married. You’re probably trying to figure out what you need and what you don’t need for your wedding and this means thinking about anything and everything your married friends and relatives have shared with you. One of the “key pieces” of any wedding (or so you’ve heard) is the person who’s going to coordinate it all: the wedding planner. But wait – do you really need one? That’s a question that I’ve asked myself numerous times.

From the moment you hire a wedding planner, you won’t have to do much of anything. The wedding planner will ask you every question under the sky about your style, preferences, and budget. Then they start arranging everything you need and want for your big day. All the components, from a venue to a DJ and even your cake and books are covered. You don’t have to worry about anything until they tell you what they’ve found, after which you check it out and sign the agreement form.

Of course, a wedding planner is not for everyone. However there are numerous situations in which having one can definitely help you out. Say for example, one or more of these conditions apply to you:

1. You’re Having a Large Wedding

Large weddings often include a lot of extra necessary services and no shortage of opinions you need to oh so gently refuse. Your wedding planner, as your coach, will help you say no to the things you don’t want and get the things you do want. That’s their job after all, and they’ve done it numerous times before.

2. You’re Having a Destination Wedding

If you’re having a destination wedding it’s great to have a wedding planner to take care of the extras you need but might not know are necessary, such as passports, travel visas, and special permits. The last thing you want is to get married on some beautiful tropical island only to find out five years later that the marriage isn’t valid. A wedding planner can take care of all of the details to make sure this doesn’t happen.

3. You Have a Large Budget

Of course there’s also the “just because you can” reason, and why not?! If your budget is large enough and you have the means to hire a wedding planner, then making your life easier, just got easier. Wedding planners simplify the planning process because they take care of everything. You don’t have to worry about anything going wrong at the last minute, leaving you the luxury to enjoy yourself.

4. You Have No Time

The final reason to consider professional help is if you simply don’t have the time to plan your wedding. Planning everything yourself can very quickly feel like a full-time job. By the time you meet with everyone to coordinate dates, you then have to find the perfect caterer, the DJ and everyone else. You’ll be running all over the place every weekend (and some weeknights too), trying to get everything together at the last minute. If you don’t have time for that because of other commitments then you probably need a wedding planner to help you out.

My Choice?

For me the question of whether or not to hire a wedding planner was an easy one. I have a pretty large family but it’s nothing too big to handle. I’m also planning on getting married at a local church and I have enough time on my hands to plan every aspect myself. Not to mention, I actually think that it’ll be a lot of fun (I’m having fun so far anyway…). On top of that I know that there is no room in our wedding budget for a wedding planner.

Despite being my own planner, I’m really not alone. I have my mother, sisters, fiancé, and of course my friends – all of whom are a great help. What does this mean, if you’re concerned about getting everything done in time, but don’t have the money to hire a wedding planner? Find the people in your inner circle who you trust because they will be your biggest heroes leading up to your big day and in the days afterward.
