Getting your hands on a Mansur Gavriel bag is an episode of Mission Impossible. The it bag has taken the world by storm this summer, and become the go-to accessories of a bunch of icons, including top-listing supermodel Miranda Carr and everyone’s favourite Emma Watson.

Founder Rachel Mansur and Floriana Gavriel debuted their first two styles of bags–a drawstring bucket and a top-handle horizontal tote in early 2013. Inspired by the contrast of warm, natural textures and the clean intensity of pop colours, Mansur Graviel’s use of high quality Italian vegetable tanned leather and classic craftsmanship instantly caught the eyes of fashion mavens.
“There were few [bag] brands at the contemporary price point that held a good value,” Mansur told BOF. The relatively affordable price of MG’s leather goods is believed to be the immediate drive of the label’s success in claiming its space in the fashion and luxury goods market. MG is also one of the few start-up brands that has achieved 100% sell-through stockist on online shopping sites including Net-A-Porter, Barneys New York, Bergdorf Goodman, Colette and Opening Ceremony.
The it label’s signature vegetable tanned leather is also the crux of its fame. “Vegetable tanned leather will not remain pristine and sleek. It is completely natural, meaning it is naked, with no synthetic top finishes,” according to Mansur and Gavriel. Meaning, as you are running around the city with MG’s bag, it will transform and become the one and only customized bag that marked your events. Each line of scratch that appears on your Mansur Graviel bucket represents bits and parts of your life. How great is that?
Soon, Mansur Gavriel will find out if its magic extends beyond bags. The label hosted its first fashion week presentation in downtown Manhattan in September, turning the ground floor of the Swiss Institute pink to present its very first colourful collection of shoes, as well as four new bag styles.
