Written by Natasha Cornall | Multitasking makeup products seem to be one of the top trends this summer. From BB creams that moisturize, prime, protect and conceal all at the same time to dual lip and cheek stains, cosmetics companies bring out a multitude of double-duty products that help lighten your makeup bag. But don’t feel you need to go out and buy all these wonder products – there are other ways you can make your makeup work twice as hard and you can get much the same benefit from the products you already have lying around.

1. Mascara as Eyeliner or Eyeshadow

Mascara probably features among the top five essential products that comprise most women’s makeup routines, but as well as lengthening and thickening your lashes, it can also be used as eyeliner. It has essentially the same consistency as a liquid liner: just dab a small amount onto the back of your hand and apply to the base of your lashes with a thin, angled brush. You can use it as a sheered out eyeshadow too; just make sure to smudge well.

2. Blush as Eyeshadow or Lipstick

Don’t feel overwhelmed by the dual stains and double duty products for lips and cheeks that are on the market at the moment. You can use your favorite cream blush or lip product in exactly the same way. Cream blush lends a fresher, more dewy look than its powder counterpart, which makes it perfect for achieving the same effect when applied to other areas of your face. Using your fingers, sweep a small amount across your eyelids or apply to your lips as a pretty, sheer tint.

3. Bronzer as Eyeshadow or Brow Powder

Whether you favor a shimmery, highlighting bronzer or a matte one for contouring, you can make it work double duty. Apply a shimmery bronzer to your lids in the same way you would an eyeshadow, or apply a matte bronzer as eyeshadow and brow powder. You can use both types of product as eyeliners too; simply dampen the tip of a thin angled brush, line your eyes, and instantly make them pop.

4. Vaseline as Highlighter or Illuminator

Vaseline is another product that many people have somewhere in their makeup bag but don’t reserve that little tub for just your lips! Add it to your cheekbones, cupid’s bow, or brow bone to highlight and illuminate those areas. Sweep it over your eyelids as a base for eyeshadow for a bold smoky eye that lasts all day.

5. Olive Oil as Moisturizer or Conditioner

Olive oil is not strictly a makeup product, but it’s definitely too good to leave off this list. One of nature’s wonder products, olive oil can be used for a multitude of beauty purposes. Like coconut oil, it can be used all over your body as a moisturizer, on the tips and mid-lengths of your hair as a conditioner, as a cuticle oil, and even as a makeup remover. However unlike coconut oil, you don’t have to melt it before you use it and it doesn’t have as strong a scent. Perfect!
