Research findings on the enzyme that Elizabeth Blackburn and her biologist partner Carol Greider called telomerase stirred up the medical world with hopes of curing cancer, aging, and other degenerative diseases. For these valuable contributions, Blackburn received the 2009 Nobel Prize in Medicine (alongside Carol W. Greider) and was hailed among the “100 Most Influential People” by Time.
