Jule Magazine: Tell us about your story.
Leungmo: My name is Leungmo. I graduated from School of Creative Media in City University of Hong Kong and currently working as freelance photographer. I am a human being figuring out what life is about.

What drives you to become a photographer?
When I was young, I want to become a painter. When I got older, I changed my mind and wanted to become a graphic designer. And as life goes, I am now a photographer. Sometimes you just won’t know what exactly you will become, just listen to your heart and go with it.

Three words that describe your photographic style?
I want my works to be interesting, inspirational, and able to give people the feeling of tranquility.

Who inspires you to become a photographer?
I’d say my dad is my inspiration. He gave me freedom and space to pursue my dream.

What is the theme of your latest photo series?
I’m documenting the “home” of homeless people. The idea began when I was walking through a tunnel one day, and I noticed there’re many homeless people living there. The people “decorate” their spaces in a surprisingly interesting way–not only a single bed, but also decorative things that make up their homes. It made me wonder what makes up the idea of “home”. I also aim to survey the relationship of private and public space in this new series.

What is the key message you’d like people to understand through your work?
Don’t lose the sense of life.

Where do you find inspirations?
I am inspired from my surroundings–a tree, a crack in the wall, a ray of light shines onto my bed, words from a book, pictures from the internet, the conversation I have with others…

What are the obstacles that you have encountered throughout your career? How did you overcome them?
The balance of art and commercial. I have to compromise in certain situations, but also keeping in mind to develop my own work and vision so I will attract similar-minded people.

Do you have a favourite project?
My favourite one is my final year project at school. I enjoyed the process of making it a lot. It changed my perspectives when surveying the world and I’ve met a lot of interesting people during the project.
